My contest entry for ~Igadevil's Kamen Rider Sigma Fan Art Contest 2007.

I joined in the contest kinda late, but I still enjoyed doing it, especially the part where I rushed for two days straight to get the line art and coloring done (Yippee!). My lil' brother actually introduced me to the contest and we both decided to join with our own entries.

The prizes of the contest were really tempting and my brother really wanted to win either second or fourth. I watched as he painstakingly mouse-colored and detailed the motorcycle on his entry. In my opinion, all of the entries were awesome, and if I have time, I may join another one of ~Igadevil's contests.

Along with my brother, I'm currently into "Kamen Rider: Kabuto", though my brother is way more fanatical about it than I am, heheh. It's an awesome series no doubt, and it definitely deserves some recognition. I'm a fan of the rider TheBee in the series, but the prizes don't have anything related to TheBee. Instead, I won a Drake oriented prize. I dunno how popular Drake is, but my brother said Drake and Sasword related products could be found anywhere in Japan, making them less of sellouts than Kabuto or Gatack (my brother's favorite character).

The characters pictured here are not from "Kamen Rider: Kabuto" but from a fan-made Kamen Rider spin-off, by ~Igadevil, titled "Kamen Rider: Sigma" (aka Masked Rider: Sigma). From left to right and top to bottom are as follows:
-Sai Jackhammer
-Kamen Rider Sigma
-Ryûsaki Maya
-Kurobe Kôhei
-Taki Mikoto
-Kamen Rider Lilith

I took some liberties in the designs and tried to make the characters look more realistic. The "I am not judging these on accuracy to my versions..." and "... your art may even have an impact and become the 'official' design for that character!" lines in the rules were responsible for that, heheh.

Also, the designs were inspired by the ZECT costume designs of "Kamen Rider: Kabuto". For some reason, Sigma's original head gear didn't look too practical, so I change it up a bit. Even Maya's hair-do looked too extreme when I drew it out at first, so I converted it to a large pigtail look. Funny how Maya's face looks the most realistic and then the others just crumble from there... I still need to practice more on faces... Maybe I should use reference material next time...

I tried to practice more line art and digital coloring. I have to try and get better and faster with this kind of work... Took a while, but I'm glad with the results I got, especially with the numerous gradient fills I used, heheh.

Drawing done in mechanical pencil; line art done with various pens and India ink using 102 point crow quill pen on smooth white bristol board; colored in Adobe Photoshop CS with an optical mouse.
